What is a Mobility Chair?

A mobility chair is a lift chair or a recliner that allows someone with reduced mobility to quickly get in and out of their chair and relax comfortably.

Lift Chair

Lift chairs include a lifting mechanism that helps elevate the whole chair off the ground to assist people in getting to their feet.

Between 1984 and 1985, the number of lift chair claims increased from 200,000 to 700,000, prompting the research. According to a New York Times storey, aggressive TV ads encourage consumers to inquire about lift chairs, and then the paperwork is provided to their physicians to sign. Obtaining a doctor’s signature is required for these companies to supply lift chairs. However, if they do not get a doctor’s signature, they must charge consumers for the lift chairs, even if this puts patients in danger.

Recliner

A recliner is an armchair or couch that reclines when the user lowers the back and lifts the front of the chair. A reclining chair has a footrest or may extend a footrest automatically when the back is reclined. In addition to being called a recliner, the chair is often referred to as a lounger, a reclining chair, and an armchair.

Comfort recliners are becoming more common. Many models include lumbar support, adjustable headrests, and a separate footstool that can adapt to fit the user’s body type and weight distribution to optimise their comfort. This app also includes heat, massage, and vibration. Wheelchair-accessible models exist.

Recliners are often seen on aircraft, trains, and buses, as well as in people’s homes.
