Two of the biggest names in mobility and care equipment have formally merged. DHCare, a new global medical device company, launched on 3 July 2026, bringing together the Invacare and Direct Healthcare Group (DHG) businesses across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific following their acquisition by private equity firm Rhône Group. The launch was reported by THIIS Magazine.
For UK equipment users the names involved are very familiar. Invacare is one of the most recognised manufacturers of wheelchairs, powerchairs, mobility scooters and homecare beds sold through British retailers, while Direct Healthcare Group, headquartered in Caerphilly, Wales, is a major supplier of pressure care, specialist seating and moving and handling equipment to the NHS and care homes. The combined business says its mission is to “move health forward” with a portfolio spanning recovery, independence and everyday living in both home and healthcare settings.
The DHCare brand will be introduced gradually across regions over the next 12 to 18 months, so shoppers should not expect Invacare branded wheelchairs or DHG products to disappear from showrooms overnight. A company spokesperson described the merger as an opportunity to expand its expertise and product offering across mobility and care management, and to explore new opportunities in rental services, an area worth watching for anyone who needs equipment for a short period rather than an outright purchase.
The new group is not stopping there. DHCare has also signed a definitive agreement to carve out and acquire the Human Mobility division of Ottobock, a globally recognised provider of complex power wheelchairs and specialist mobility solutions. That deal, the first under the Rhône ownership structure, is intended to build a comprehensive mobility platform serving end users, clinicians, dealer partners and healthcare systems across Europe.
Consolidation on this scale matters to buyers because it can affect pricing, spare parts availability, warranty support and dealer networks over time. If you own an Invacare wheelchair or are considering one, nothing changes today, but it is worth understanding the market you are buying into. Our guides to wheelchairs and wheelchair costs cover the questions to ask about servicing and long term support before you commit to a brand.
DHG’s strength in pressure care and specialist seating also means the merged company will touch many households through products like riser recliners, adjustable beds and cushions.
