Wheelchair manufacturer Sunrise Medical has opened a community fund offering up to £5,000 towards projects that help wheelchair users and disabled people take part more fully in their communities. Applications close at the end of September 2026, so there are only a few weeks left to apply.
The fund, which Sunrise Medical calls the Sunrise Moments Community Fund, is open to individuals, families, community groups, charities, disability organisations and sports clubs. The company’s own page also allows third-party nominations, so you can put forward a person or an organisation rather than applying for yourself.
What the fund will pay for
Sunrise Medical lists six categories on its application page: disability sports clubs, including wheelchair basketball, rugby and tennis; community events and activities; mobility equipment that enables greater independence; days out and experiences, including borrowing equipment to make an activity accessible; personal challenges; and local community projects that improve accessibility and inclusion.
Lucy Evans, Head of Marketing at Sunrise Medical, said the company wanted applicants to “share their stories with us and tell us what experience, opportunity or support would make the biggest difference to them”, citing family trips, milestone occasions and long-held ambitions as examples of what the fund might cover.
Applications are reviewed by a panel drawn from within Sunrise Medical, and the company says it will look to spread the available funding across a range of projects, organisations and individuals rather than concentrating it. Entries are assessed on the potential impact the funding could have on the applicant’s quality of life.
The deadline and how to apply
The application form is on Sunrise Medical’s own website and the deadline is 30 September 2026. The process is a single form covering what you are planning and how the funding would help. There is no requirement to be an existing Sunrise Medical customer.
Worth being realistic about the scale. Up to £5,000 is available, and Sunrise Medical has said it intends to spread the money across several recipients, so this is a fund for a specific piece of equipment, a club’s kit, an accessible trip or a one-off event, rather than for a major home adaptation.
Where to look if you need more than this
For larger costs, manufacturer funds like this one sit alongside a much bigger set of statutory and charitable routes.
