TGA Mobility’s new WHILL C Lite folding powerchair is now reaching UK customers, bringing one of the lightest powered wheelchairs on the market to buyers who need a chair that can travel with them. First unveiled at Naidex at Birmingham’s NEC in March, the powerchair is built around an ultra-light 17kg carbon chassis and folds with one hand for car boots, trains and holidays.
According to trade publication THIIS Magazine, the WHILL C Lite has been designed for “real life on the move”. It features carbon fibre blade suspension to smooth out pavements and kerbs, a fully adjustable seat, and a smartphone app that allows remote-controlled parking and personalised driving preferences.
The launch reflects a wider shift in the powered wheelchair market towards lightweight, transportable designs. Lithium-ion batteries, compact motors and smart controls have transformed what is possible in a folding chair, and manufacturers are increasingly using carbon fibre, including recycled carbon fibre, to cut weight without sacrificing strength. TGA has also launched a powerchair made from recycled carbon fibre, pointing to a more sustainable direction for the industry.
The WHILL C Lite is also listed as a powered wheelchair option on the Motability Scheme, where its low weight and pavement-friendly setup make it suited to everyday errands and getting around locally. Powered wheelchair and scooter prices on the scheme are published quarterly by Motability.
For buyers comparing options, weight is only one factor. Battery range, seat comfort, turning circle and after-sales support all matter, especially for a chair used daily. Our wheelchair costs guide explains typical prices for manual and powered models, and our mobility aids section covers alternatives if a powerchair is not the right fit.
As always, try before you buy where possible. You can find a local mobility retailer through our directory and arrange a demonstration at home or in a showroom.
