RSA Insurance, operating as RSA Motability, was the longstanding insurance provider for the Motability scheme in the UK, offering comprehensive motor insurance cover to disabled people leasing vehicles through their disability allowance. The Motability scheme enables eligible individuals to exchange part of their mobility allowance for a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair, with insurance included as part of the package.Under RSA’s provision, the insurance package covered up to two nominated drivers per vehicle, with the option to add a third. The comprehensive cover included breakdown assistance, servicing, maintenance, repairs and support for vehicle adaptations, some of which were available at no additional cost. RSA worked alongside a network of over 5,000 UK dealerships to ensure Motability customers had access to vehicles and specialist equipment suited to their needs.It is worth noting that from September 2023, Direct Line Motability replaced RSA as the official insurer for the Motability scheme. The transition was designed to be seamless, with no change to the level of cover or customer experience. Motability customers continue to receive the same comprehensive insurance, breakdown and maintenance package under the new arrangement.
