Mobility Grants and Funding Finder (UK)

A hand filling in a form on a clipboard with a pen

Quick answer: answer five questions about where you live, who needs help and what for, and this finder lists the grants, schemes, tax relief and benefits that may help pay for mobility equipment or home adaptations in your part of the UK. Each one links to the official page, says what we read there and when, and explains how to apply. It does not decide whether you qualify. Only the organisation running the scheme can do that.

The rules are different in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Scotland has no Disabled Facilities Grant, Wales runs its own ENABLE scheme, and in Northern Ireland the Housing Executive grant starts with a referral from your Health and Social Care Trust. The finder keeps them apart.

Find funding

Takes about two minutes. Nothing you tick is stored or sent to us.

How the finder works

It matches your answers against a list of 19 schemes. Each entry was written from the scheme’s official page, or the charity’s own site, which we read on the date shown. Where an official page states an amount, the finder quotes it as written; it does not estimate what you would get.

The matching is deliberately broad. If a scheme might apply, it is shown, with the reason and the conditions that could rule you out. Nothing is hidden because of income, because most means tests are too detailed to apply from a few questions. If you tick a benefit that a scheme names, such as an enhanced mobility rate for the Motability Scheme, the finder says so.

Two sources disagree on the Northern Ireland grant. GOV.UK says up to £25,000; the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, which runs the grant, and nidirect both say up to £35,000, and up to £70,000 in some cases. The finder uses the Housing Executive’s figure.

What it does not cover

  • Local council schemes, such as discretionary top-ups, loans and home improvement agency services. They vary by council and change often, so the finder links you to your council instead of listing them.
  • Scotland’s council grants are described from Citizens Advice Scotland, because the Scottish Government’s pages could not be read when we checked. Adult Disability Payment rates are not shown for the same reason.
  • NHS wheelchair services outside England, and benefits in Northern Ireland, are not yet checked. The finder says so in your results instead of guessing.
  • Whether you will get anything. Every scheme has its own assessment, and the finder cannot see your income, your home or your health.

How we keep it up to date

We aim to re-read every official page in the list every three months, and sooner when a rule change is announced. Each scheme in your results shows the date we last read it. If something has changed before we get to it, email hello@reviewmobility.co.uk with the scheme name and what is wrong. When we confirm an error we correct it and update the date.

Your privacy

The finder runs in your browser. We do not ask for a postcode, a name or any contact details, and your answers are not saved or sent to us. If you have accepted analytics cookies, we count that the finder was used, which UK nation was chosen and how many options were shown.

Frequently asked questions

Can the funding finder tell me if I qualify?

No. It shows schemes that may apply to you and the conditions each one sets. The council, government department or charity that runs the scheme makes the decision after its own assessment.

Is there a Disabled Facilities Grant in Scotland?

No. Scottish councils help through a scheme of assistance instead. Citizens Advice Scotland says the grant is at least 80% of the eligible cost, or 100% if you get certain means-tested benefits.

Should I get quotes before applying for a grant?

You can, but do not sign a contract or let work start before the council approves your application. Councils do not usually pay for work that has already been done.

Can I get a mobility scooter on the NHS?

Not usually. The NHS says mobility scooters are not generally available. Wheelchairs are, after an assessment by your local wheelchair service, and the Motability Scheme leases scooters to people on certain mobility allowances.

Why do you not ask for my postcode?

Because the finder does not need it. It links you to the official page where you can find your council, so your postcode stays with you.
