Eden Mobility Acquires Derbyshire Mobility, Reaches 47 Stores Nationwide

Eden Mobility, the UK’s leading provider of mobility scooters and associated products, has acquired Derbyshire Mobility in a deal that takes its total store count to 47. The acquisition includes three retail locations in Chesterfield, Matlock, and Ripley, and marks another milestone in the company’s rapid expansion.

The Scunthorpe-based business has grown nearly 50% in under two years since receiving investment from Foresight Group, a leading smaller companies investor, in 2024. Prior to Foresight’s initial investment, Eden Mobility operated 32 stores and employed 108 people. The company now employs more than 150 staff across the UK.

Rob Cartledge, the former director of Derbyshire Mobility, has joined Eden Mobility as Strategic Projects Manager. In this new role, he will focus on developing Eden’s offering beyond its existing retail operations, which currently cover mobility scooters, wheelchairs, walking aids, and daily living aids.

The acquisition reflects a broader consolidation trend in the UK mobility retail sector. As of March 2026, there are over 7,400 mobility equipment suppliers operating in the United Kingdom, ranging from large national chains to independent local retailers. Private equity-backed growth strategies, like Eden’s partnership with Foresight, are becoming increasingly common as investors recognise the sector’s growth potential driven by the UK’s ageing population.

For consumers, consolidation can bring both benefits and concerns. Larger retailers typically offer wider product ranges, better after-sales support, and more competitive pricing. However, independent retailers often provide more personalised service and deeper local knowledge. Eden Mobility has said it intends to maintain the personalised service that Derbyshire Mobility’s customers are accustomed to.
