Stannah Launches New 158 Stairlift with Contemporary Design

Last Updated on June 22, 2026 | Published: June 8, 2026

A modern stairlift

Stannah, one of the UK’s best-known stairlift manufacturers, has launched the Stannah 158, a new stairlift model featuring a contemporary design aimed at homeowners who want a mobility solution that blends smoothly into modern interiors. The model became available across the UK from January 2026.

The Stannah 158 features a sleek tan leather seat with black detailing, a departure from the more traditional upholstery typically associated with stairlifts. The design has been developed to appeal to a younger demographic of users and homeowners who are conscious of interior aesthetics alongside functionality.

The launch comes as Stannah continues to expand its product range beyond traditional stairlifts. The company’s Uplifts by Stannah through-the-floor home lifts have seen strong demand since the first unit shipped in September 2024. Stannah has announced plans for a dedicated manufacturing facility in Andover by the end of 2026, with increased space for automation and robotics.

Company leadership has indicated that the Uplifts range is expected to drive 30 to 40 percent of growth over the coming years, as more homeowners consider through-the-floor lifts as an alternative to stairlifts. The trend towards home lifts has been growing across the UK, with some homeowners viewing them as a more elegant and future-proof solution.

Stannah, a family-owned business established in 1867, also has its sights set on international expansion. The company is pursuing US certification ahead of a North American debut to complement its existing European operations. In March 2026, Stannah partnered with Test Valley Borough Council in a local community initiative.

For those considering a stairlift, the Stannah 158 sits alongside models from other major manufacturers including ThyssenKrupp and Handicare. Prices for straight stairlifts in the UK currently start from around £1,800, while curved models range from £4,500 upwards.
