Short answer. The parts that wear out on mobility aids are cheap and nearly all on Amazon UK: rubber ferrules for sticks and crutches, glides and brake cables for frames and rollators, liners for commodes, and washable pads for beds and chairs. A worn ferrule is the single cheapest fall risk you can fix; a four-pack costs under ยฃ10. What you should not buy from this page: parts for powered equipment. Scooter and powerchair parts need to match the exact model, and a wrong part is a safety problem, not an inconvenience.
Walking stick and crutch ferrules
The ferrule is the rubber foot. When the tread wears smooth, or the rubber cracks, the stick can slip on wet paving. Check it monthly; replace it at the first sign of smoothness. Most sticks take a 19 mm ferrule, most crutches 22 mm, but measure the tube before ordering. Sizes run 16, 19, 22 and 25 mm.

The Flexyfoot costs about three times as much as plain rubber and earns it for daily crutch users: it flexes to keep more rubber on the ground and the foot is replaceable on its own. For an occasional stick it is overkill. Skip all of these if you cannot identify the tube diameter; a loose ferrule is as dangerous as a worn one. Walking frame glides and rollator parts
Frame glides, sometimes sold as skis, replace the rear rubber feet on a wheeled frame so it slides instead of catching. Rollator brake cables stretch and snap with use, and a slack brake on a rollator someone leans on is a fall waiting to happen. Under-seat bags tear years before the rollator wears out.

Skip the brake cables if you are not confident adjusting a brake and then testing it under full body weight. A mobility shop will fit and test a cable for a few pounds, and that is money well spent. Universal parts fit most frames, not all: measure the old cable and check your rollator model before ordering, and keep the receipt.
Commode liners
Liners turn emptying a commode from a twice-daily chore into a bag in the bin. The absorbent-pad type gels the liquid, which matters if the person carrying it has a weak grip.

Amazon UK carries the mainstream brands, often at competitive per-pad prices in subscription form. Sizing and absorbency levels are where people waste money, and a pharmacist’s advice is free. Skip washables if laundry capacity is the bottleneck: no dryer, one carer, daily changes. Disposables are the honest answer there, and the per-unit cost of a bulk pack is lower than it looks.
When to replace, at a glance
- Ferrules: at the first smooth patch, or every 6 to 12 months in daily use.
- Frame glides: when the frame starts to catch or scrape.
- Brake cables: the moment a squeezed brake no longer locks the wheel on a slope.
- Liners and pads: consumables. Buy a month’s worth at a time, not a year’s, in case needs change.
Amazon or a specialist?
For rubber, plastic and fabric consumables, Amazon is usually cheapest and fastest, and VAT relief rarely changes the answer at these prices. The exceptions: parts for powered equipment, which are dealer only; anything where the weight rating matters; and pads on NHS supply, which are free. Frequently asked questions
What size ferrule does my walking stick take?
Measure the outside diameter of the tube at the bottom. Most sticks are 19 mm, most crutches 22 mm. If you are between sizes, go by the measurement, never by force of fit.
How often should ferrules be replaced?
Check monthly, replace at the first sign of smooth or cracked rubber. Daily users typically need new ferrules every 6 to 12 months.
Are rollator parts universal?
Mostly but not entirely. Cables and glides sold as universal fit the common frame designs. Measure the old part first, and keep the receipt.
Can you get commode liners on the NHS?
