A walking stick with a seat gives you support as you walk and a place to sit the moment you need a rest. It is brilliant for queues, garden visits, fishing, watching the grandchildren, or anywhere seating is not guaranteed. The main thing to get right is how many legs the seat has, because that decides how stable it is. Here is how to choose, and five worth a look.
How to choose a seat stick
Tripod or single leg. This is the big one. Three-legged (tripod) seats are steady and you can relax on them. Single-leg flip seats are lighter and cheaper but tippy, so they are only for a brief perch on firm, level ground and never for fully relaxing.
Weight capacity. Check the user weight limit for sitting, which is different from just leaning on a stick. Do not push it.
Seat height and comfort. A seat that is too low is hard to get up from. Adjustable-height models let you set a comfortable seat and a comfortable walking height.
Weight to carry. You will carry this around, so a light aluminium or carbon frame makes a real difference on a long day out.
